Want to take your dog on holiday to the UK? Does your cat have a taste for Europe travel?
During the summer in the UAE, many pet owners decide to take a break with their pets.
When you are taking your pet on holiday there are a number of things to consider:
- Exiting Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE can be a lot easier and cheaper than returning. Remember that only Etihad and Turkish Airlines allow in-cabin travel into the Abu Dhabi so all other arrivals are as manifest cargo
- Vaccine expiration - if you get vaccines re-done while you are out of the country it may cause problems on your return. Where possible, have vaccines done in the UAE and make sure that they will not expire while you are away
- Correct exit paperwork - if you do not get the correct export papers from the UAE then getting back in becomes a huge problem - make sure you follow the export procedures to the letter
- Flight timings - If you are also travelling with your pets, pick departure times that are overnight so your pets are transported to the aircraft at the coolest time possible
- Snub nose pets - there are very strict rules around snub nose dogs and cats and you may find that there are embargos over the summer months - plan well in advance and be prepared to get a BOAS certificate (fit-to-fly certificate).
