You're moving to the UAE, what are the requirements for your furry friends?
Planning to relocate to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Fujairah, Ajman, Um Al Qwaim or Ras Al Khaimah with your pet? Whether you're concerned about banned breeds, snub-nosed animals, or just navigating the entry requirements, we've got you covered!
The process for bringing your pet into the UAE varies depending on the country of origin and its rabies risk classification by the UAE. Here's what you need to know:
For Dogs:
For Cats:
In the 14 days leading up to your journey, your pet must be treated for internal and external parasites. Additionally, you’ll need an import permit to bring your pet into the UAE.
The UAE has strict regulations on certain breeds. The following breeds are currently banned from import (always check with us for updates):
Exceptions exist for service dogs, emotional support dogs, and medical support dogs, but you must obtain permission from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE).
In Dubai, certain breeds cannot live in apartments and must be registered with the Veterinary Services Division. These breeds must be leashed and muzzled in public:
Snub-nosed (BOAS) breeds, including certain dogs and cats, face unique challenges in the UAE's extreme heat. Airlines often impose embargos on flying these breeds between April and October due to the risks involved. However, they can safely travel any time via private jet, which is the best option during the summer months.
While it's possible to handle the relocation process yourself, mistakes can lead to your pet being quarantined, which is both stressful and expensive. We offer a "DIY" service, providing expert guidance while you manage the process. Interested in learning more? Get in touch today or sign up for our newsletter to stay informed!
